Where did you purchase those slacks? They look smart.

IT workers dubbed 'worst dressed' - Breaking - Technology - smh.com.au

Who really gives a fuck? It's probably more important to these wanky, "corporate stylists" (shudder) to look the part than to actually do the work - sales and marketing types for example. Sorry, gross generalisation. I apologise.

"The internet is now such a massive industry but people haven't caught up in terms of their dress," she said. Seriously, WTF? Automotive repair is a massive industry too! What about them? When was the last time you cared what a mechanic looked like as long as he could fix your car? Would you trust a mechanic that wasn't covered in grease?

I think if you're using your brain and not your charm, it really doesn't matter what you look like. Programmers don't get hired because they are good looking or fashionable. 99% of the time there's absolutely no reason for IT types (the technical people, not the suits) to dress up.

I've heard of places where the dress code was "cover your genitals". I don't know how true that is, but to me that sounds like a company focused on what should matter to anyone producing technology: the technology.

right. i read your post on this earlier in the week and just had to say something.

if you don't work with the public, and nobody is ever going to see you besides coworkers at your job why in the hell do you have to worry about your attire? makes no fuckin' sense.

an ex-girlfriend of mine used to work for Morgan Stanley. they're a large financial company with the bulk of their employees working hidden deep in office buildings and cubicle mazes. nobody ever sees them, yet they have a strict dress code containing of nothing but expensive attire. slacks, pressed shirt and tie, polished shoes, business suits, etc. every day of the week except fridays (sort of). and for what? nothing.

personally i'd be angry as hell if i had to fork over a bunch of my pay for unnecessary expensive clothes just to maintain a *image* that has nothing to do with job performance.

and get this. Morgan Stanley was so weird about their dress code the freaks actually published and distributed to their employees a full color booklet on what "casual friday" dress code was about and what kinds of clothing were allowed. they had to educate their staff about what bluejeans are, i guess. retarded. absolutely retarded.

if you don't have a need to impress anyone with clothes while you're on the job and if the public is never going to see you then i say you should be able to wear whatever you want.

Shit like this just makes me want to slap some sense into these fucks. Talk about getting the bile flowing. For some reason I just cannot tolerate people who are hung up about their image, or these materialistic cunts looking down their noses because I spend more to experience life than to accumulate crap. Glassed.
